A message from beantier
ResoluteGamers.net was created about a year ago to serve as an online community to unite gamers from a number of online games. The idea started as a blog, beantier.blogspot.com, then was transferred to a free hosted PHP Fusion site, beantier.totalh.com, and finally as my knowledge of PHP Fusion grew and an interest by a number of close friends for a new "Gaming Community" arose ResoluteGamers.net was hatched.
Membership in ResoluteGamers.net grew over the course of 2008 to almost 400 members. Some members joined up to take advantage of the free TeamSpeak hosting, free Web Hosting, and free PerlBot hosting, but a good number were genuinely interested in making an investment in a growing community and were active members on the forums and public TS server.
At its peak ResoluteGamers.net was hosting nearly 50 free 100 slot TeamSpeak servers, a public counter strike server, a public IRC chat, countless free web hosting accounts, and the head of almost 10 sibling sites. The site grew rapidly for a while, then leveled off in the third quarter of 2008. As I became busier with work, school, and life in general the updates I made to the site lessened. Near the end of 2008 tragedy struck and strong winds knocked out power where the site was hosted. In an attempt to fix the site, the hosting company restored some of their backups, but when restoring PHP Fusion they used the newer version 7 that had been recently released, which overwrote some of the site's SQL tables that version 6 used. The incompatibility resulted in a broken site. The site was left as wreckage for several months and I spent countless hours attempting to make tedious repairs. After so long I cut my losses and decided to start over.
Starting for scratch wasn't easy, but I was looking forward to the newer version of PHP Fusion, so it was somewhat fun at first. Realizing, or really always knowing, that there are an infinite amount of gaming community sites I looked to take a bit of a different approach, or put a different twist on the site in hopes of attracting members. I decided to make more forum sections for question and answer rather than general chit-chat. In addition to changing the attitude of the site from discussion of games to help with games/help with making games, I made the entire site much more public. In order to do most anything on the old site you would have to create an account. This made for a lot of registrations, but this time around while less people will register, more will probably use the site since they don't have to register. Even the download section doesn't require registration, though this may change based on popularity. You may also notice that the site is much more simple/lightweight. While I loved how advanced the old site came to be, I think a much more simple approach will attract more users of all types. As you may recall the old site had many pages for all sorts of things, TeamSpeak server status, counter-strike server status, counter-strike clan, free hosting information, and much more. While this was all very cool, it was only relevant to about 20 people, the people who used all of these things daily. I don't know that this new approach is better, and more than likely the site will grow back up to something like it was before as time goes on, but this is a starting place. Of course, I am open to everyone's comments and opinions as this is still very much a community site. Just let me know if you want to see something you don't or are looking for a new section on the forums. And as noted above, let me know if you are interested in being a part of this site's development, while the site is young again there is much to do. Thanks for you interest in ResoluteGamers.net.
Regards,
